Sofora is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in New York City that supports equal access to quality education and rural development in Africa.

Sofora (\so fo' rah\, n.) means unity, togetherness and teamwork in the West African language of Jola. Our mission is to work collaboratively with the communities we serve in supporting the education of the youth and rural development.

Access to quality education opens up possibilities for children to achieve their dreams and to help societies thrive. We believe that access to quality education is a child's fundamental right and opportunities to learn should be available to all. Working with existing schools and communities to address immediate needs, such as books and supplies, we hope to increase the number of rural girls and boys who complete quality primary and high school education.

Rural development in Africa is essential to providing economic opportunities. Our first project in rural development is providing access to clean drinking water in Sutusinjang Village in The Gambia, West Africa. Subsequent projects include supporting a women's garden, building a women's market square, and establishing a medical clinic.

Together, we can open opportunities for the education of children and the empowerment of women in rural communities.

Donations of all amounts are welcome.
